From radiology courier to CEO: where CIVIE came from and where it's headed

In a sponsored feature in Radiology Business, Dave Pearson profiles CIVIE CEO Dhruv Chopra and the company he leads, from its roots as Collaborative Imaging, now CIVIE, to its plans for AI across radiology.
A courier’s view of radiology
Chopra started out shuttling imaging orders, CDs and reports for his cousin’s radiology practice in Houston. It was meant to tide him over after his MBA, but the job showed him that radiology “was riddled with avoidable inefficiencies and process errors.”
That led him to research the software available to fix them, and then to operations roles at Zotec Partners, Emphysis Medical Management and Advanced Diagnostics Healthcare System. He joined Collaborative Imaging in 2018 and co-founded CIVIE in 2025.
A new name and a clear mission
The company took the CIVIE name in January 2025, when WindRose Health Investors acquired Collaborative Imaging’s technology platform. The name comes from one of Collaborative’s best-loved products, its digital scheduling toolkit. Chopra describes the mission as “delivering a complete ecosystem of AI-powered, purpose-built software products to radiology operations that could really use them.”
Results and the people behind them
The feature groups CIVIE’s products into categories and cites results from company materials, including a 60% reduction in operational expenses and a 24% increase in average revenues for clients on the full set of workflow tools, and a 40% improvement in radiologist productivity for clients using the worklist, PACS and speech-to-text. It also introduces RadPod, CIVIE’s on-demand radiologist network.
CIVIE’s technology team numbers around 250 software engineers, 80 data scientists and 20 AI specialists, and the company owns every technology it uses.
AI that connects everything
Chopra’s long-term goal is agentic AI that guides a patient’s imaging episode from the first call for an appointment to the final outcome. “How can we let AI connect everything together?” he asks. He is candid that it is “not ready for primetime yet,” and that the near-term focus stays on software that makes reads faster and better.
